Doris I. Gwinn, 85, of Martinsburg, passed away Saturday, April 23, 2016 at Elmcroft of Martinsburg Senior Living Community with her family by her side

Born December 18, 1930 in Calvin, Nicholas County, West Virginia , she was the daughter of the late Guy H. Perkins and Josephine Perkins.

She was a loyal member of the First Baptist Church in Martinsburg, West Virginia since 1964, a member of the church choir and a faithful member of the Bible Study Class until recent years.

Doris graduated from Nicholas County High School, in Summersville, WV where she was a member of the National Honor Society. She attended Glenville State College and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Music. While at Glenville she was chosen 1951 Homecoming Queen and she also met the love of her life, Ralph Gwinn, whom she married December 27, 1952. Her chosen path in life was to serve the Lord, to raise her two sons, and to provide a wonderful home for her family. She loved music and played the piano and saxophone. Those who knew her know that she always had a contagious smile.

She is survived by her two sons, Steve Gwinn and fiancee Kim Phillips, David Gwinn and wife, Char all of Martinsburg, grandchildren; Leslie Gwinn of Brooklyn, NY, and Evan Gwinn of Seattle, WA. She is also survived by two brothers, one sister, and 12 nieces and nephews and (BBB) Bethany Caton.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ralph Gwinn in 2005. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, two brothers, and one niece.

Family will receive friends Wednesday, April 27, 2016 from 6:00 PM to8:00 PM at the Brown Funeral home

Funeral service will be held 1:00 PM Thursday, April 28, 2016 at The First Baptist Church of Martinsburg. Interment will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Hospice of the Panhandle 330 Hospice Lane Kearneysville, WV 25430 and Elmcroft of Martinsburg, 200 Gloucester Drive, Martinsburg, WV 25401.
