Alvin Elwood Whitacre
Alvin Elwood Whitacre, 84, passed away on Sunday, May 21, 2017 at the Winchester Medical Center.

Born January 24, 1933 in Martinsburg to the late Alvin Edward Whitacre and Ethel Penwell Whitacre.

Alvin was a veteran of the U. S. Army having served in the Korean War. He later retired as a machinist for Corning Glass Works for 35 years. He was a faithful member of the Tomahawk Christian Church where he served as Deacon and Trustee for over 40 years.

Alvin is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Phyllis Lee Hedges Whitacre; his wonderful daughters, Robin Whitacre and Jada Nichols and her husband, Mike. He was also the grandfather of Jennifer and Matthew Tinsman, Andrew Danfelt, and Michael Nichols; great-grandfather to Landen, Bayley, and Darrion Stavely, Wade and Willow Tinsman.

He was preceded in death by his great-grandchild, Bradden Stavely, and sister, Bessie M. Winkler.

Family will receive friends from 6:00PM to 8:00PM on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at Brown Funeral Home and on Thursday from 10:00AM to 11:00AM prior to the service at the church.

A funeral service celebrating his life will be held at 11:00AM on Thursday, May 25, 2017 with Pastor Jerry Timbrook and Pastor Christian Jorgensen officiating at Tomahawk Christian Church.

Interment will be in Rosedale Cemetery.
