CHARLES NORMAN SMITH, JR. (AGE 72) PASSED AWAY PEACEFULLY ON APRIL 22, 2017, AT BERKELEY MEDICAL CENTER ICU IN THE ARMS OF HIS WIFE AFTER A VALIANT BATTLE AGAINST CANCER.

HE WAS BORN AUGUST 8, 1944, IN LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY, TO CHARLES NORMAN SMITH SR AND EVA BELLE SMITH.

CHARLIE TOUCHED MANY LIVES WITH HIS WIT AND HUMOR. CHARLIE WAS A MASTER ELECTRICIAN AND AN ELECTRICAL INSPECTOR IN WEST VIRGINIA FOR MANY YEARS. HE RETIRED IN AUGUST 2016 TO PURSUE HIS LOVE OF GOLF AND CRUISING THE OCEANS. FOR MANY YEARS HE WAS AN AVID DUCKPIN BOWLER. CHARLIE WAS IN THE NAVY FROM JULY 1962 UNTIL AUGUST 1965 STATIONED ON BOARD THE USS MOUNT MCKINLEY (AGC-7) WHERE HE LOVED BEING ON THE OCEAN.

HE IS SURVIVED BY HIS WIFE BARBARA MAY SMITH AND HIS DAUGHTER TAMARA MANAHAN (MARK), AND THREE BROTHERS, DONALD (DOROTHY), GARY (TAMMY), AND DANIEL (SELENA) SMITH AND ONE SISTER LOIS ANN MUMMERT. HE ALSO HAD TWO STEP SONS DONALD MAY (SABINA) AND JACK MAY. HE HAD 9 GRANDCHILDREN AND 4 GREAT GRANDCHILDREN WITH ANOTHER GRANDCHILD DUE IN NOVEMBER.

HE WAS PRECEDED IN DEATH BY HIS FATHER AND MOTHER AND ONE SON JAMES MICHAEL SMITH.

VIEWING WILL BE TUESDAY APRIL 25 FROM 2-4 AND 7-9 WITH A MEMORIAL SERVICE ON WEDNESDAY APRIL 26 AT 3:00 AT BROWN FUNERAL HOME, 327 WEST KING STREET, MARTINSBURG, WV 25401
