The first time Uncle Phil rescued me was when I was about 6 years old. Mom (Mary Coffey Willinger) has told me this story many times. Uncle Phil was sitting on the bottom landing of the staircase visiting and talking with other family in the living room in Camp Hill, Pa. My sister (Lynda Coffey Gregory) and I were going up the staircase. I was behind Lynda carrying my barbies and we had gotten all the way up to the top of the staircase and I lost my balance. Well you know what happened next.....I fell backwards and Uncle Phil caught me halfway down the long staircase, but I didn't mention that Uncle Phil had a hurt leg or foot and still was able to reach me before I fell all the way down. Uncle Phil disregarded himself and his pain and took action to rescue a little girl (me).
The second time Uncle Phil rescued me was when I was about 14 years old and Dad, Teri, John and I were visiting Uncle Phil and Aunt Betsy. I believe that this was in Martinsburg and there was an old church next door to their beautifully restored home. The day after we arrived we all went to church which was Sunday morning. We all stood to sing and I started to get faint and lightheaded/dizzy. The way I remember the story is I called Uncle Phil's name a couple of times because being young I didn't want to draw attention to myself by sitting down when were to stand and sing, but Uncle Phil did not hear me becuase I had his left ear and this ear was a little hard of hearing. (This is a 14 yrs old rememberance mind you) may not be exactly accurate on the hard of hearing. However, I fell over between the pews and fainted. When I woke up the first person I saw was Uncle Phil and he was so kind and had compassion. Uncle Phil took charge made sure I was taken care of and I will always remember him as such a kind, gentle, sweet man with the most kindest sweetest wife in the world- (Aunt Betsy).
