Obituary for Everett Lanstreet Crowell

Everett Lanstreet Crowell, 90, of Hedgesville, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 4, 2017.
Born October 15, 1926 in Hedgesville, WV he was the son of the late James Porterfield and Bertha Pitzer Crowell.
Everett served in the US Army in World War II in the 47th Infantry Division in Nuremberg, Germany. After serving his country, he returned to finish school and graduated from Hedgesville High School, class of 1947.
Everett is a life-member of Hedgesville United Methodist Church and also attended Johnsontown Church of the Brethren. He was a former treasurer of Hedgesville Cemetery and a life-time member of the Hedgesville Cemetery Association with over 60 years of service. He was also a charter member of Hedgesville Volunteer Fire Company where he, along with other men from the community, provided collateral and helped to start Hedgesville Volunteer Fire Company. He also brought back the first fire truck from Baltimore, MD for the department.
For over twenty-five years he worked as the office clerk at the United Clay Brick Company in North Mountain until it closed. He then went to work at General Motors in Martinsburg until he retired after 19 years of service.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Dolly Virginia Rhoe Crowell; four sons, Larry E. Crowell and wife, Sandi of Gerrardstown, Jeffrey R. Crowell, Rodney B. Crowell and wife, Keena, and Bradley R. Crowell and wife, Tonya all of Hedgesville; six grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by five brothers, James Crowell, Earl Crowell, Alan Lee Crowell, Martin Crowell, and Newton Crowell; five sisters, Helen Cooley, Hazel Crowell, Alice Crowell, Sarah DeHaven, and Jane Crowell; daughter-in-law, Frances Crowell; and step-grandson, Larry Light.
Family will receive friends on Thursday, April 6, 2017 from 3:00PM to 5:00PM and 7:00PM to 9:00PM at the Brown Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be held on Friday, April 7, 2017 at 1:30PM at Brown Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Dennis E. Jackman of Hedgesville United Methodist Church, assisted by brother-in-law, Dennis Rhoe, Pastor of Johnsontown Church of the Brethren, and Larry Westcott, Assistant Pastor of Johnsontown Church of the Brethren officiating. Military graveside service will be in Hedgesville Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Hedgesville Cemetery Association, PO Box 1763, Hedgesville, WV 25427; Hedgesville United Methodist Church, PO Box 35, Hedgesville, WV 25427; or Johnsontown Church of the Brethren, PO Box 278, Hedgesville, WV 25427.
Bearers will be Jeff Crowell, Rodney Crowell, Brad Crowell, Master Sgt. Nathan Lark, Tech Sgt. Christopher Crowell, and Bradley R. Crowell. Honorary bearer will be Larry Crowell.
