Obituary for Gerald Wayne Messenger

Gerald Wayne Messenger, 84, of Martinsburg, passed away on Wednesday, March 15, 2017.

Born February 25, 1933 in Terra Alta, he was the son of the late Lawrence Allen Messenger and Dorothy Minnie Poole Williams.

He was a member of Jones Spring United Methodist Church and a charter member of Hedges Chapel.

He was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force and a retired teacher of Washington Co. Schools in Maryland.

He is survived by his wife, Bernadine Sharff Messenger; three sons, Eric T. Messenger and wife, Shelly, of Santo, TX, Scott S. Messenger of Wheeling and James P. Messenger and wife, Karen, of Deleon, TX; daughter, Dee Anna Grover of Fairless Hills, PA; nine grandchildren, Joshua, Katy, Zachary, Payton, Logan, Jacob, Tyler, Sean and Trey; four great grandchildren, Erik, Kaloni, Nakoa and Hayden; brother-in-law, Charles Stemple; daughter-in-law Gina Messenger; two step-granddaughters, Amber & Stephanie; and six step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Jason T. Messenger; brother, James A. Messenger; and four sisters, Anna Mohawk, Lois Williams, Lorraine Harman and Margaret Stemple.

Services will be held at 1:30 pm on Monday, March 20, 2017 at Brown Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Lowans officiating. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm.

Military honors will be conducted at the Mausoleum of Pleasant View Memory Gardens.

In lieu of flowers family requests memorial donations may be made payable to Alzheimer's Association, c/o Clary Grove Nursing Home, 209 Clover Street, Martinsburg, WV 25404.
