Obituary for Joan N. Chambers (Newkirk)

Joan N. Chambers,87, of Hedgesville, passed away Saturday, March 11, 2017 at Berkeley Medical Center.

Born September 14, 1929 in Hedgesville, she was the daughter of the late Claude Mason Newkirk and Alice Roberts Newkirk.

She was a lifelong member of the Falling Waters Presbyterian Church.

She attended Shepherd University and was a member of the DAR. She was an avid reader and had an interest in genealogy.

Joan retired from the US Senate Majority Leader Office, where she had been employed under the direction of Mike Mansfield, and Lyndon B. Johnson.

She is survived by her son with whom she lived, Kirk M. Chambers and wife Deborah L. of Hedgesville; two grandchildren, James Mason Chambers, and Rebekah Lee Chambers; one sister, Betty Jane Porterfield; sister in-law, Ginger LeMaster Chambers; + and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry L. Chambers.

Family will receive friends Sunday, March 19, 2017 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Brown Funeral Home

Services will be held 11:00 AM on Monday, March 20, 2017 at the Falling Waters Presbyterian Church in Spring Mills.

Interment will be held in the Falling Waters Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
