George “Sonny” Bernice Carroll, 81, of Ranson, passed away Thursday, February 23, 2017, at the VA Medical Center. Born March 5, 1935, in Charles Town, he was the son of the late Joseph William Carroll, Sr. and Fannie Sipe Carroll.
Sonny was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church. He served in the US Marine Corps from 1953 to 1956 and was a carpenter by trade. He was a member of the Charles Town VFW, American Legion, and Moose #948.
He is survived by his brother Linden Haines Carroll; three sisters: Mary Ellen Goff, Louise Gonzales, and Darlene Carroll, and sister-in-law, Diane Carroll.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph William Carroll, Jr. and Harry Richard Carroll, and three sisters: Gladys Sutler, Ethel Jeanie Jamison, and Frances Zohlmann.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m, Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at the Jefferson Chapel Funeral Home. Interment with military honors will be in the Edge Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 pm, Monday, February 27, 2017 at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in his honor be made to the Asbury United Methodist Church, 110 W. North Street, Charles Town, WV 25414.
