Eugene Alfred "Gene"  Roman
Eugene Alfred “Gene” Roman, 86, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2017 under the care of Hospice.

Born April, 13, 1930, in Martinsburg, he was the son of the late Granville S. Roman, Sr. and Margaret Johns Roman.

He graduated from Sumner-Ramer High School in Martinsburg where he participated in basketball, baseball and football. He then attended Storer College in Harpers Ferry.

Gene served in the United States Army during the Korean War where he received the Good Conduct Medal, Army of Occupation Medal with Japan Clasp, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal with 1 Silver Service Star, United Nations Service Medal, and Korean Presidential Unit Citation.

Mr. Roman retired after 38 years with the Newton D. Baker (Veterans Administration Center) as a pharmacy technician.

He was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church in Shepherdstown serving in various capacities, prior to his illness.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Margaret (Devonshire) Roman; his five children, Sheila Hamilton and husband, Roland of Shepherdstown, Eugene Anthony “Tony” Roman and fiancée, Beth Young , Laura Ann Roman-Jones, Kevin Marshall Roman and wife, Barbara and Charlene Roman-Johnson and husband James all of Martinsburg.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers; Granville S. Roman, Jr. and David Johnson; and three sisters, Virginia Roman, Ann Devonshire and Margaret Jane Coles; and 1 Sister-In-Law, Mary Roman of Connecticut; and a host of nephews, nieces, and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 18, 2017 at Asbury United Methodist Church, 4257 Kearneysville Pike, Shepherdstown, WV.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made in his honor to Asbury United Methodist Church general fund.
