Thelma West Winston, 80, of Kearneysville passed away on Thursday, January 12, 2017.
Born April 29, 1936 in Leetown was the daughter of Edmond Carter Carey and Lena Amanda Strother Carey.
She was a member of St. John Baptist Church in Shepherdstown.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, James Carlton Winston, Sr.; sons, Michael W. Carey of Martinsburg, James C. Winston, Jr. of Martinsburg, Charles E. Winston of Martinsburg, Kevin D. Carey of Martinsburg, Roy D. Winston of Charleston, Larry W. Winston of Martinsburg, and Robert “Bird” McDowell of Martinsburg; daughters, Lillian A. Williams of Ranson, Debra D. McCallum of Martinsburg; Carolyn A. Jones of Greenwood, South Carolina, Thelma L. Grant of Martinsburg, Carol M. Winston of Martinsburg, and Kristine M. Hosby of Martinsburg; forty grandchildren, forty-one great-grandchildren; a brother, Charles Carey of Martinsburg; and sisters, Linda Gail Williams of Shepherdstown, Laura Boyd of Charles Town, Lena Williams of Martinsburg, Helen Carey of Martinsburg, Katherine Johnson of Martinsburg and Virginia Taylor of Washington, D.C., Wellington Brown of Hagerstown.
She was preceded in death by a son, Darrell L. Winston; brothers, Robert Carey, John Day and Daniel Carey; a sister, Alice Carey; and grandson Blake O. Parrish.
Funeral service will be held Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at 2:00PM at New Destiny Ministry Center, 437 Border Road, Kearneysville with Dr. Joe D. Liles and Pastor Chris Walls officiating. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
