Sylvia Irene Smith Evans, beloved wife and mother, of Martinsburg went to be with the Lord on Friday, April 29, 2016 at Berkeley Medical Center under the care of Hospice of the Panhandle.

Sylvia was born January 16, 1934 in Martinsburg, WV to the late Herman Sylvester Smith and Evelyn Bessie Kettering Smith.

She was a Licensed Public Accountant and was the past employee of W. Melvin Reid for 29 years before becoming the owner for 33 years of W. Melvin Reid & Sons. She was a graduate of Martinsburg High School class of 1952. She was the past District President of The VFW Ladies Auxiliary District 4, past President and current member of Ladies VFW Auxiliary #896, Conocheague Tribe #84 Improved Order of Red Men - Red Feather Council #59, The Moose, Women of the Moose Chapter #738, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #824 Ladies Auxiliary, Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary Snake State #14, Eastern Star #69, AMVETS #38, American Legion #14, NRA member, and a proud holder of a Concealed Weapons Permit.

She is survived by her husband Grover "Bud" L. Evans; son Patrick "Pat" W. Hilliard and daughter-in-law, Elizabeth "Liz" L. Hilliard of Martinsburg; grandson, Patrick G. Hilliard of Harrisonburg, VA; granddaughter, Megan E. Mooney and husband, Scott C. Mooney of Charlotte, NC; and great-grandchildren Harley-Quinn V. Hilliard, Luca J. Mooney, Aiden S. Mooney, and Jackson W. Mooney.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sons, Eric L. Hilliard in infancy, and S. Darth Evans; and her brother Ronald K. Smith.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 1, 2016 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be held on Monday, May 2, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home with Pastor David Palmer of Inwood Family Worship Center officiating.

Interment will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens. Bearers will be Mark Mason, Mike Pounds, Scott Mooney, Jason Brown, Jerred Brown, and Art Brown.

The family wishes to extend sincere appreciation to Hospice of the Panhandle. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial contribution to the Wounded Warrior Project in Sylvia's Name.
