Obituary for Shirley Irene Vaughn (Johnston)
Shirley Irene Johnston Vaughn, 89, of Fayetteville, PA (formerly of Shepherdstown, WV), passed away on Wednesday, March 2, 2016.
Born August 10, 1926 in Arnold, PA, she was the daughter of the late Beyer Shaw and Velma Gillis Johnston.
She was a retired Boonsboro High School physical education teacher and coach.
She graduated from New Kensington High School in 1944 and went on to earn her BA degree from Shepherd College and her MA degree from West Virginia University.
She was a member of Shepherdstown Presbyterian Church, the Washington County Maryland State Retired Teacher Association, the AAUW, and the Shepherdstown Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary.
She is survived by four daughters, Lynda Hart and husband, William of Nashville, TN, Leslie Byers and husband, Michael of Nashville, TN, Pamela Johnson and husband, Nicholas of Fairfield, PA, and Paula Vaughn of Huntington, WV; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren;
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Earl Johnston and George Johnston.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00PM on Saturday, March 5, 2016 at Brown Funeral Home. Family will receive friends on Saturday from 12:00 Noon until 3:00PM at the funeral home.
Graveside service will be held on Monday, March 7, 2016 at 11:00AM in Greenwood Memorial Cemetery in Lower Burrell, PA.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Shepherdstown Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box F, Shepherdstown, WV 25443.
